What is a Nurse
Practitioner?
The Nurse Practitioners at University
General Surgeons, P.C. are registered nurses with advanced
academic and clinical experience. They practice under the rules and
regulations of the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act and are board
certified in a health care specialty area.
Working in collaboration with a
physician, the nurse practitioner provides high quality,
individualized care for the patient. Services provided by the nurse
practitioner include:
- Obtain
medical histories
- Perform
physical examinations
- Diagnose
and treat acute health problems such as infections and injuries
- Order,
perform, and interpret diagnostic studies such as lab work and
x-rays
- Prescribe
medications and other treatments
- Provide
patient and family education
