Dr. Stanley J. Kurek, Jr., D.O. graduated with his medical degree in 1993 from the Philadelphia college of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Chief Surgical Residency and General Surgery Residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center/Temple University in Johnstown, PA in 1999.He completed a Trauma/Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) and then became Chief of the Pediatric Trauma Division at LVH. During his tenure at LVH, Dr. Kurek was the Trauma/Surgical Critical Care attending and was also Assistant Professor of Surgery at Penn State University College of Medicine. Dr Kurek was the Trauma/Surgical Critical Care attending Chief in the Pediatric Trauma Division at Lehigh Valley Hospital and was also Assistant Professor of Surgery at Penn State University College of Medicine. His most recent position before coming to the University of Tennessee Medical Center was at the Medical University of South Carolina. There he was Assistant Professor of Surgery, Trauma/Surgical Critical Care Attending, Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Medical Director of Surgical Quality, Safety and Clinical Effectiveness, and the Program Director, Surgical Critical Care Residency.

Dr Kurek is a Fellow of the American college of Surgeon and a Fellow of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Other memberships include Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma where he is currently Chairman, Careers in Trauma Committee. In addition he is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, and the American Medical Association.

Dr Kurek has had numerous publications, abstracts, articles and has done many presentations. He has also been involved in the research and a co-investigator on several studies.
