General Surgery

University General Surgeons, P.C. provides elective and emergency general surgical services for patients at the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) in Knoxville, Tennessee. Elective (or scheduled) general surgical services can be arranged by visiting one of the surgeons in our clinic. These elective procedures can be scheduled as either an outpatient or inpatient surgery, depending on the nature of the procedure. The surgeons are also on call at UTMC to provide emergency (unscheduled) general surgical services, such as for acute appendicitis or bowel perforations, whenever they might be needed.

General surgery is a specialty that encompasses many areas of the body including the abdomen, colon and rectum, endocrine, gallbladder, intestinal tract, head and neck, hernia, parathyroid, skin and soft tissue and stomach. Below are some of the common procedures:

  • Abscesses and wound care
  • Vascular Access
  • Lesions of the skin and soft tissue
  • Medically complex surgical cases

We understand the importance of personal communication and can put your mind as ease by answering your questions and explaining your surgical procedure in detail. If desired, we will also communicate with your family and your personal physician about your surgery and health status. In addition to the above, the UGS surgeons also provide critical care services, trauma surgical services and nutritional services to their patients.
